Artist-Edouard Manet

Manet his “sketch-like” style started the impressionist movement. He took Courbet’s paintings of ordinary people a step further by painting parties, taverns and prostitutes. His paintings were flat with heavy outlines, inspired by Japanese prints. He was one of the first major artists in the Salon des Refuses (Salon of the Rejected) which was created by Napoleon III as a place to exhibit work turned down by the stiff academics at the Paris Salon show.

More of a traditional look than my usual mythological works

It takes place in a garden so I started with a green background. I feel that I have a pretty good handle on anatomy, so when I paint a figure without a model or photo I start with the skeleton. Easier to get all of the dimensions correct.
